Hair of a Different Color

Today I am thankful for this kid--er, I mean man.  Some teenagers show their independence or rebellion by disrespect, bad behavior, and crime. Then there is my grandson.  He has expressed his individuality in a different way.
He thinks"What will Grandma say?"
Grandma says, "What a nice fall color"

He thinks, "Will this make Grandma mad?"
Grandma says, "Now, that is a bold look."

He thinks, "Will Grandma yell at me now?"
Grandma says, "You look just right for summer?"

He may be an unorthodox kid, but in the scope of things it's only hair.  And since he graduated from high school, works hard, is a skilled BMX rider, I don't think that this is the battle to choose.

Plus, he tells his gramma that he loves her.

1. What song reminds you of a specific time in your life and what is it about that song that makes you remember?  Whenever I hear "Silver Bells", I am reminded of the time I was in Denver.  On my lunch break,  I went shopping for my wedding dress.  It was snowing, and the strains of Silver Bells filled the air.  I found the perfect dress--street length, with a lace top and voile skirt.  And it was on sale.  So that day, to the melody of Silver Bells, I purchases the dress that two weeks later I would wear for my wedding in France, with real bells ringing.

2. What's something you've given up on?
Being a size 10 again.  I am learning to be comfortable in my own skin (all of it).  I still try to lose weight, but I'm not consumed by it.

3. What's something you'll never give up on?
Praying for my children, that they will let God be their navigator.  Although Christians, they aren't serious about it.

4. If you had to cook something from scratch in the next hour what would it be?
         Peanut Butter Cookies.

5. Have you started Christmas shopping? Decorating? Listening to Christmas music?
No to Christmas music, I'm still enjoying Autumn music.  No to decorating, although last night I went to an event sponsored by our women's group at church.  It was held at this cool interior design studio.  The designer gave us a lot of tips on recycling decorations into new and beautiful items, so it got me thinking.  I made my Christmas gift list in July, and since I make most of the things, I am done with that.  Just have a few Walmart toys for the little grands.

6. What do you know about your parent's wedding?  They got married by the justice of the peace in Idaho in 1940.

7. I can't believe I went to the doctor today and between the office visit and chest x-ray I waited four hours.  No wonder I hate going to the doctor. (This from a former nurse.)

8. Insert your own random thought here.  'Cause I have bronchitis, I am tired and cranky.  Little granddaughter says, "Gramma, your face needs timeout."

  2. I had to do the same thing when my son was in high school, choosing battles, I just thought the hair deal wasn't that big of a deal. It wasn't and he is now happily married with 3 boys and one on the way.
I tell young mothers, choose your battles carefully.
That picture of the bike in the air is cool.

My mom and dad got married by the justice of the peace too. Pretty common aback then I bet.

  5. Now that was a FUN hodge podge to read!! I love the face needing a time out comment- sounds like something mine needs occasionally too!!! :)
Feel better SOON. and thanks for visiting my blog as well.
PS Love your attitude towards your grandson's hair ... I've seen too many kids pushed away by their authority figures because they made mountains out of molehills.

  6. What great pictures of your grandson. And you summed it all up perfectly, "He tells me he loves me." Love your wedding dress song memory. That was sweet. And waiting 4 hours! Yikes. Hope you're enjoying a good day!

  11. My grandson has had some unique hair too and he is just 14 now. He once had a blue spiky Mohawk that stuck up about 3 inches. For the longest time he looked like Peter Pan. Now his hair is short. His mom is a hair dresser and, well, sometimes I think she encourages some of his styles. I still love them both to pieces :)

Nice reading the little bits about you!
