Easter Spots

It was just about this time of year, the spring I turned ten years old.  Mom had been busy sewing new Easter dresses for us girls, and spiffy new shirts for the boys.  She had even made herself a new dress. Saturday night we all had our baths, and then off to bed.  This was to be a special Easter.  After church, we were going to a friend's house for dinner and an Easter egg hunt. We were going to have such fun.  We had spent all Saturday afternoon dying eggs and had a whole basket of beautiful creations.  Early Sunday morning, we were up and had breakfast, and then we got ready.  We put on our beautiful dresses, brushed our hair until it shown, helping each other with the ribbons for our hair.  Then into the car we all piled, our eggs, and some things for the dinner all safely stowed in the trunk.  The ride to town was about 25 miles, part of it a twisty canyon road.  Now, Bob always got to sit by the window 'cause he tended to get car sick, and this morning was no different. So Mom stopped the car and he got out, and after losing breakfast  got back in.  As Mom was helping his tidy up she saw them!
He was breaking out in spots, they were popping out like popcorn over a hot fire.  Then she looked under my sister's arms, and she was getting them too.  With that, sadly she turned the car around and we headed back home.  We were so upset, but she explained that chickenpox was very contagious and we couldn't be around others for awhile. What a sad day that was for us!  But when we got home, Mom said we would have our own church, so we sang choruses, and read about the resurrection from the Bible, and after a nice dinner, we had our own Easter egg hunt.  Somehow during dinner the Easter bunny had hidden all our eggs.  It turned out to be a good day after all.

  3. Love how your brother getting carsick is just a tiny part of the story and funny that sometimes major disappointments turn out to be some of the best memories. Enjoy your Easter!

  4. What a great story. I'm sure you relived every moment as you were writing it out here. My brother and I always managed to get those types of things over the Christmas holidays. Have a Happy Easter- xo Diana
