Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. How many students were in your high school graduating class? Did you know most, if not all of them?
There were 57 seniors in my graduating class, and I knew who they all were, but only a few I considered friends.  I was considered an outsider because I lived on a ranch, had gone to a country school, and not been part of the gang during elementary years--a stigma that four years of high school didn't quite alleviate.  Also, it didn't help that I was one of the top students and took school seriously.

2. What was the last thing you photographed?
I took pictures of my grand kids yesterday as they played

3. Pickles-love 'em or loathe 'em? If its love what's something you eat that needs a pickle?
Love all pickles except sweet pickles.  A cold crunchy pickle is good right out of the jar, and a must have on a hamburger.

4. What's a stereotype you seem to perpetuate without meaning to?
Most people seem to think that because I am older, I am smarter.  And to often, I don't ask for help when I really need it.
That is me sending greetings from the Yukon
5. Ever been horse back riding? If so is it something you enjoy? If not, do you have any interest? Did you watch the Kentucky Derby? Will you be watching the last leg of the Triple Crown this weekend?
I was riding a horse before I could walk.  We lived on a ranch and my dad had a lot of horses--western horses used for riding range and hunting trips.  I love to ride, but don't get much chance to anymore.  The last notable horseback trip I took was with my daughter on a side-trip on our Alaskan cruise three years ago.  We had a trail ride in the Yukon--seeing such beautiful scenery.  I don't watch horse racing.

6. What's your favorite 'wedding' movie?
Don't really care for any of them.

7. What is one 'tourist attraction' in the USA that you'd like to see in person?
I am fortunate to have seen so many places in the USA, but I still have the Smoky Mountains on my wish list.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
I joined a gym today.  It is hard to exercise on my own, and my neighborhood isn't exactly one where you would want to be out walking or jogging in, so I'm hoping the structure of going to a gym will keep me on track.  When I was working, I went every morning at 5:00 a.m. and enjoyed it, but that gym closed and I have just never gotten back in the groove.

  1. Well I should be at the gym right now : ) My hubs grew up in the foothills of The Smokies so we've spent lots of time there. Its a beautiful part of the country for sure!

  2. The Smoky's are beautiful, but don't let the cat out of the bag. I always fuss when too many visitors fill into the park. Don't people know those mountains belong to me? lol I tell my DH how I would love to have a house right in Clingman's Dome parking lot. That would be such a perfect place. I hope you have to pleasure of visiting my mountains one day soon! =D

  3. I LOVE all pickles too... but not sweet ones either.... and I think that working out first thing in the morning is the best way to start any day!

  4. I grew up in East Tennessee - you MUST see the Smokies some day!!!! :)
Good for you for joining the gym - keep up the good work.

  5. I love pickles; my favorites are the ones that are less vinegary and taste like a cross between a cucumber and a pickle. But I like them all! I only like the sweet ones with Southern Barbeque, but I MUST have them with barbeque!

The Smokies are gorgeous. Definitely put that on your "must see" list!

  6. Well - I can answer all of those.

#1 - 250 kids and yes everybody almost knew everybody. I wish I HAD taken school seriously but I never did. Another should've/would've/could've in my life.

#2 - Two t-shirts from Cincinnati just this morning because one blogger wanted to see the WKRP one and I'm not modeling it.

    3. - Love pickles and especially homemade ones. However, not as much as I used to when I ate them right out of the bottle. I think I must have eaten one too many or something.

    4. Hmmmm. That question is too smart for me.

    5. Horses! Now you're talkin! I adore them. And will ride any chance I get. I was riding at about two years old. The love for them has never left me. The three big races are the only ones I watch and will be watching the Belmont this Saturday. Hoping for a triple!

    6. I don't like 'love' stories because life is just not like any of that stuff.

    7. New England

    8. I joined the gym about the first of March. I'm loving it and feel so darn much better. Incredible what it does.

  8. I also love pickles, except the sweet ones. Actually, I recently stumbled upon some spicy garlic pickles made by someone local and they are a little on the sweet side, but so good I could eat the whole jar in one sitting, and I almost did more than once! I also like fried pickles, if they're done right. Yum.

  9. My class had 60 something (I've forgotten the exact number) and it was much the same for me because of growing up on a farm and going to a country school. I wasn't one of the top students, however. Just an average student, but good enough to get into college.
I haven't seen the Smoky Mountains, either, and it's near the top of my list of places to visit.
Enjoy the rest of your week!

  10. That's a small graduating class. I felt like an outcast during High School, too. I never fit into any of the groups and was (am) enough of an introvert to never find my niche.

  11. I hated going to the gym! All those very skinny girls talking about the green peas they ate for dinner last night!! So I got a bike and a tredmill for the home and do my workout there.
Boy your class was small! I know what you mean about not fitting in, I didn't either.
