Sheridan Update and Rogg Ranch

Up the North Fork of the Shoshone river, about 5 or 6 miles from my childhood home--Skyline Ranch, was the Rogg Ranch.  The lodge where they lived was a huge log building with an imposing fireplace. It sat on the north bank of the river.  We always entered through the back porch filled with baskets of root vegetables into a spacious ranch kitchen.  Mom and Mrs. R would have coffee and visit, while Daddy and Mr. R discussed horses or hunting, or Daddy worked with one of Mr.'s horses.  We kids were free to roam around the house--decorated in western motif, or the grounds, with the caution to stay away from the river.  Mrs. R had a large garden.
I remember one time I pulled a white radish, took a big bite and thought I was going to burn up-radish was horse radish.
The living room of the lodge had massive log furniture with cushions made from Indian print fabric.  The stone fireplace was never lit while we were there.

I remember that we would tip toe around and look at the mounted animal heads, the antler chandelier, Indian artifacts and other things we could only guess the nature of; we whispered because it was so quiet, unlike our home which was filled with laughter and music. We were always curious when visiting--exploring all the unusual decorations, but glad when it was time to go home.  There was just something about a large silent house that didn't seem normal to us.

UPDATE ON SHERIDAN
Today--Monday--Sheridan had a follow-up surgery to redo the wiring of his jaw.  The doctor also smoothed an exposed bone below the gum line that had been causing him pain, so hopefully the gum will grow over it and cover it.  They also injected cortisone into the area at his lower eyelids to help promote the healing of his face.  Sounds like a lot but, this was minor compared to his last surgeries.  He is cranky, but planning on going back to work tomorrow.  For new readers you can review his miracle HERE.

  1. That place does sound eerie! Maybe it was the lack of other children on the property that made it seem so quiet. Sorry Sheridan had to go through more surgery. Blessings to him as he continues to heal. xo Diana
