Super Moon

We have a beautiful sight in our night sky for a couple of evenings.  It is called a super moon.  June 2013 presents the moon’s closest encounter with Earth until August 10, 2014, at which time the moon will be a scant 5 kilometers closer to Earth. Moonlight holds a special place in my thoughts--some happy, others sad.  Awhile back I wrote a poem about one of the effects that moonlight had on me.

Moonlight

Pale golden globe
Faintly lighting the night sky
Casting its cool beams
On the tears that I cry

Its light only a reflection
Of a source now unseen
Like my tears an expression
Of a love that might have been

Had not time and things
That happened in the past
Led down a different road
Now only the memories last

The shadows in the dark
Hide the shape of what is real
Passion fades and like the moon
Only the reflection of love I feel.

Pondering with a Purpose-Live

Today's prompt is: Live
I don't know about you... but I am really enjoying this double word meaning rhythm we have going here.

I want to live life live.  I want to be in real time, experiencing each moment as it happens.  I want to feel the happiness and the joy as they swell and then break over me.  I want to know the sadness and pain as they surround me like an ocean wave, so I can then feel the release as the hurt ebbs.

Memories are wonderful, but they are just a shadow of the live experience, just as moonlight is a shadow of the sun light.  They lack the intensity of the real thing.

So for me live is the only way to live.

The Soul Flies Free

Beyond

Waking with hurt
Followed by pain
Every movement a
Reminder of fragile humanity
Days turn to months
Then seasons to years
Still bound with chains
Of suffering
Until that day
When fetters fall clear
The soul flies free
Unshackled on gossamer wings
To complete pain free liberty

Candy Jar of Life

Candy Jar of Life
As I sit here at the table
I see the candy jar
Filled with yummy treats–

Red cinnamon in
fiery cellophane,
Caramels sparkling in
shiny gold,

Peppermints in stripy
red and white,
Root beer wrapped
in orange and brown

Butterscotch–hard and sweet
in blue and yellow plaid
And lemon drops–very tart but
so soft inside.

As I sit here at the table
Looking through my life
Filled with many friends–

The feisty redhead facing
life full on,
A wise old lady with
words of gold

The perky girl refreshing
as a breeze,
A trusted friend answering
my every call

An old man some say hard,
but really sweet and giving
A tart-talking rogue with
heart so soft.

As I sit here at the table
    Looking through my life.

Saturday Afternoon in my Neighborhood

Saturday Afternoon
On a lazy afternoon
Sitting on the swing
Mariachi rhythms
Dance upon the breeze
Somewhere in the neighborhood
Voices call to kids
Young men polish beat up trucks
And the girls flirt with ease
Scents of roasting barbeque
Mingle with the call of doves
It’s evening in my barrio
And I'm enjoying all of these.
