Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. Lake Superior University has once again published a list of words/phrases they think should be banished from the Queen's English in 2012-
amazing, baby bump, shared sacrifice, occupy, blowback, man cave, the new normal, pet parent, win the future, trickeration, ginormous, and thank you in advance.
Which of these words/phrases would you most like to see banished from everyday speech and why? Go here to read more about how the words are chosen.
Of these words I most dislike the new normal.  Somehow it seems to lessen the acceptable limits of the good and the moral.
2. Are you easily embarrassed?
No.  I am fairly self-deprecating, so I don't embarrass, however, I do get my feelings hurt easily by mean or thoughtless remarks.
3. What is your go-to snack?
Chips and salsa, I am especially fond of Pineapple Chipolte Salsa that Walmart sell.

4. Have you ever been to Washington D.C.? If not do you have any desire to go? What site/attraction would you most want to see in that city? If you have been, what's your favorite site/attraction?
I haven't been to DC.  I would like to go sometime and see the cherry trees in bloom and visit Lincoln Monument, and the other historical sights.  I am so mad at Congress right now that their buildings are not on my agenda.

5. sit ups-planks-lunges-squats...which do you hate the least?
I'm not familiar with this language--is it Russian or Swahili.

6. What's a small act of kindness you were shown that you've never forgotten?
There have been many.  Recently, I was going through Starbucks drive through for my Skinny Latte, and when I went to pay, the cashier said that the car in front of me had taken care of it.  I didn't recognize the car or driver. My day had started out badly, but right then it did a u-turn.

7. Have you ever been a blood donor?
Yes, I have donated blood many times, but since I have been sick, I have not had the privilege.

8. Insert your own random thought here.
I am in a funk, and for no specific reason.  It might be that all the stress and worry over my grandson's accident is over, it might be that I hate to let go of the Christmas season, it might be that I have nothing exciting going on in my life, or it might be I'm just having trouble getting focused.

  1. That is so nice someone paid for your Latte. I want to remember to do this for someone.

  2. I love your response to #5. :-) And I'm with you - feeling a bit like that dog in the photo. For me, I think it's just the winter blues, mostly due to all the activity of November and December being over and all the company gone.

  3. I always mean to do something like that ... but the logistics of it stump me? How would I know how much money to give the person at the register since I don't have a clue what the person behind me is going to order?

I too get my feelings hurt ... I am hypersensitive that way. :-(

    Hope you're able to get out of the funk soon. {{hug}}

  4. I am so sorry you are in a funk. It could be it is January. All this sunshine. :) Just a break would be nice. I like that someone paid for your latte. It made me think of a day when I was having a really bad day, My Mom had just died and I was at the breaking point. I went to the grocery store and when I came back there was a note on my window. I thought Oh gee what did I do now?
It said, "God knows you are going through a hard time right now, He just wanted you to know He sees you and He loves you."
I sat in my car and cried my eyes out.
It is always those tiny acts of kindness that just are so incredible.

  5. I too think January is a funky month - and with your grandson's accident, I'm sure you're having some post-accident "crash" (emotionally). No doubt you'll be back to your self soon! Just take it easy for now! It's ok!

I hear you on the "new normal" - and I agree with you about Congress!!! Ugh!!

Oh - and thanx for the encouraging comments about me going on my 2 trips. I have such a hard time indulging MYSELF ... I would feel better if my WHOLE FAMILY could go - but both trips are "once in a life time" for my kids. :)

  7. #5 gave me a real chuckle!!! I love to laugh. I pray that you will seize on something exciting and happy and that funk will quickly be a thing of the past. Thanks for visiting my blog. I hope you'll come again.

  8. It's January and I think it's easy to get into a funk when it's cold. Hopefully you'll find something exciting to occupy yourself with soon. I'm already looking forward to planting the garden!

  9. The "new normal" is to be abnormal. What gets really tricky is, if you're normal then you're abnormal. See?

Oh, I so love chips & salsa! I can make meal on this comfort food. Yum!

#5 Russian or Swahili - good answer. lol

Thanks for visiting. It was a pleasure to have you over!

  12. What exactly is the "new normal"? What is the "old normal? What about "normal"? I have no idea anymore.

  14. I'm determined to pay for a drink one of these days! I love how such a small gesture can completely turn a day around. We need more of them!

  15. Washington, DC is a "must see" for everyone, in my opinion! Love that place! Hope your spirits are lifted soon, but I do understand. I've been in a bit of a funk today myself. My oldest daughter left for college today...and I really miss her!
